The bakery brand returns to its roots after five successful years, reinforcing its commitment to sharing the flavors of Puerto Rico with communities across the U.S. and the Island of Enchantment.
Kissimmee, FL — FL Bakery, the beloved Puerto Rican bakery that has become the epicenter of Puerto Rican gastronomy in Central Florida over the past five years—particularly for the diaspora—has announced its expansion to Puerto Rico. Founder and owner Rafael Román made the official announcement during the company’s fifth anniversary celebration, held earlier this July in Kissimmee.
“Every FL Bakery recipe honors our Puerto Rican roots and the deep love we feel for our homeland,” said Rafael Román, founder and president of FL Bakery. “The opening of FL Bakery and FL Bakery Factory & Café in Puerto Rico marks a historic milestone for our company. Although our concept was born on the island, returning feels like coming home—as if we’re closing a cycle. In reality, this is just the beginning. This expansion represents a new phase of growth, allowing us to consolidate our brand by leveraging the experience we’ve gained over the past 13 years.”
The expansion includes a 6,300-square-foot FL Bakery in Aguadilla, expected to create 40 jobs, and a 14,000-square-foot FL Bakery Factory & Café in Camuy, which will employ 60 people. The Camuy location will serve as a central hub for the preparation and distribution of baked goods across Román’s network of bakeries throughout the island.
“FL Bakery seeks to fuse the traditional charm of Puerto Rican baking with a modern café atmosphere,” added Román. “Our exposure to different cultures in the U.S. has shown us that it’s possible to strike a balance—staying true to our roots while embracing innovation. FL Bakery Puerto Rico is a blend of cherished family traditions and modern flair.”
In just five years in Florida, FL Bakery has become a community favorite for its traditional baking methods, quality products, and exceptional customer service. Signature offerings include Pan Sobao, coffee brewed from beans harvested in the mountains of Puerto Rico, the Pastrami sandwich, and the ever-popular Dubai Chocolate Frozen Coffee.
FL Bakery currently operates three locations in Central Florida:
- FL Bakery Kissimmee – 8,000 sq. ft.
- FL Bakery Orlando – 4,000 sq. ft.
- FL Bakery Factory & Café in St. Cloud – 9,766 sq. ft., serving as a modern production and distribution hub for hotels, restaurants, and other FL Bakery locations.
The company generates approximately 200 direct jobs and 25 indirect jobs in Florida, with an economic impact of over $10 million in just five years.
FL Bakery’s journey began in 2020 with the opening of its first location in Kissimmee, shortly after Román relocated to Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.
As part of the anniversary celebration, the Mayor of Kissimmee, Honorable Jackie Espinosa, officially proclaimed July 15th as “FL Bakery Day” in Kissimmee. She and Kissimmee Commissioner Noel Ortíz presented the proclamation to Rafael Román in recognition of his contributions to the local economy and his commitment to preserving and celebrating Puerto Rican culture in the community.
With the addition of the Aguadilla and Camuy locations, Rafael Román now operates 13 bakeries between Puerto Rico and Florida.
